Stray Dog Freed After Encased In Ice At -54C Siberia

A stray dog that was found frozen alive in blistering cold has been miraculously rescued by villagers in Siberia.

The animal encased in ice was close to death in minus 54 degrees Celsius (minus 65.2 degrees Fahrenheit) temperatures when her desperate cries for help were heard by a hospital worker.

The canine was finally freed by a group of kind-hearted locals who dug her out of the ice. She has been given a new home by the woman who discovered her.

The worker in the hospital kitchen in Churapcha village, 3,150 miles east of Moscow, heard the animal's desperate moans.

The stray was nearly dying, encased in ice with only her head clear.

The woman cook was unable to free the distressed ice-clad dog and summoned help from other villagers.

Members of a local automobile club arrived with crowbars to chip away at the ice and free the dog.

Once free, she was taken in to the warm and fed.

Locals expected the poor dog - name unknown - to be seriously frostbitten but surprisingly her condition was 'not severe', said reports.

She was bandaged by a local vet and now has a new life after being adopted by the cook who heard her cries for help.

The dog has a tag in her ear, showing her to be a stray that had been caught, vaccinated and sterilised.

The incident came in the most severe winter for a decade and a half in Yakutia, an area of Siberia that is the coldest permanently inhabited region in the world.
