Fireman Played Same Lottery Numbers For Years Unluckily Missed Out £1.5M

A Firefighter who played the same lottery numbers for years missed out on winning £1.5million as he was busy on a call-out.

Mike Boyd could not buy his usual ticket online as he was on a job in a remote village with poor reception.

He was “gutted” to find out he would have had five numbers and a lucky star in the EuroMillions’ £183million jackpot draw on December 11 — for which five UK players shared £9,431,900.00.

Had Mike bought his ticket, they would have got £1,571,983 each.

He had played his numbers — including winners 6, 9, 13, 24 and 41 — each week for two years.

Mike, 49, said: “I never miss a draw, I was just very unlucky.

"I’m trying not to dwell on it, but I really could have helped a lot of people.”

Mike, of Worthing, West Sussex, said he would have spent much of the money on his parents.

He added: “They have worked their entire life and I would have been able to let them both retire comfortably.

"And my brother and sister, too.”

His sister Nicki said: “Four years ago, Mike had an injury misdiagnosed which has left him unable to continue the job for much longer.

"No one deserved this money more than my brother, I’m heartbroken.”
