Japanese Theme Park Unveils The Largest Godzilla Replica In The World

A replica of movie monster Godzilla has been unveiled at a Japanese theme park, as part of an attraction dedicated to the creature.

And visitors can ride on a thrilling zip line straight into the beast's cavernous, sharp-toothed mouth.

The attraction has been unveiled at Nijigen no Mori theme park on Awaji Island - close to the city of Kobe.

According to the park, the model is 'life-size', with the bottom half of the body 'buried underground'. In the latest Godzilla movie, the monster is 120 metres long (393ft).

The actual structure at the park, however, is 55 metres (180ft) long, 25 metres (82ft) wide and 23 metres (75ft) high.

The attraction, which opened earlier this month, is named 'Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji' and sees guests watch a short film, where they are told they are researchers that must stop the creature.

One of the ways they do this is by zip-lining into Godzilla's wide-open mouth - through its spiky teeth.

When back on the ground, visitors can then take part in a shooting game to 'destroy Godzilla's cells'.

The theme park is also home to the world's 'first permanent Godzilla museum', where movie props are on display.

In addition, visitors to the park can dine on Godzilla curry - a black curry, which is made with Awaji Island onions.

A spokesperson for the Pasona Group, the company which operates the theme park, told: 'It is the first life-size Godzilla replica in the world.

'This attraction has been very popular and there have been a lot of people around, especially on weekends, since it opened.'

The original Godzilla movie was released in 1954, with the monster portrayed as being 50 metres (164ft) tall.

The Japanese creature has since appeared in more than 30 films - most recently Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019.
