Dolphin Brings Gifts From Bottom Of The Ocean In Exchange For Delicious Meal

A humpback dolphin has developed an adorable habit of bringing visitors gifts from the bottom of the ocean.

Mystique brings gifts to volunteers at the Barnacles Café and Dolphin Feeding centre on Queensland's Cooloola Coast.

The 29-year-old male dolphin brings items such as bottles, coral and shells in his beak.

Lyn McPherson, a volunteer feeder, told the ABC that Mystique has not been trained to bring the items.

He gets fish in return for his efforts.

'He gets under it [and] if he drops it too far out, or we say "come on, that's not good enough", then he gets underneath it and brings it to us,' she said.

'We swear he has a collection waiting to bring to us.'

He is one of seven dolphins in his pod but the only one to hunt for presents.

Mystique came to Tin Can Bay with "his mum" in 1991.

"He stands out because he gets raked up fighting with other males," Ms McPherson said.

"He also had a bull shark attack in 2007 and is missing a bit of his tail, and a bit of his dorsal fin".

Another male dolphin often accompanies Mystique on his adventures in the hopes of also getting some treats.
