While most Floridians would rather get rid of iguanas, one woman from Minneapolis has found a different way to deal with the invasive reptiles.
Brittany Peters, a resident of South Florida, has found a suitable way to tackle the invasive species and save a few bucks on groceries.
'I like to promote eating what you harvest and know a lot of people kill iguanas since they are a nuisance, and I wanted to cook and eat them hoping to encourage those who kill them to also eat them,' she said to ABC Action News.
Many refer to iguanas as the 'chicken of the trees' as they are said to have a taste similar to the popular poultry.
Iguanas offer pretty lean meat, actually offering more protein than chicken.
Peters method of the hunt involves an airsoft pellet gun, which Fish and Wildlife Service assert is the proper way to kill an iguana, NBC 6 reported.
She sauteed the iguana's meat with onions and chives before using it all in a burrito with avocado, sour cream and salsa.
'I tried not to go too heavy on seasoning as I wanted to taste the iguana. It was a little more bland than I typically eat, and will add more spice in the future,' she said.
The delicacy is quite commonly eaten in countries throughout South and Central America.
But the invasive species was being eaten so much, that some countries had to list it on their endangered lists, according to the National Geographic.
In Florida, it is legal to kill iguanas but it must be done in a humane manner.
