Mysterious Cliff that Lays "EGG" shaped Stones every 30 years in China

Locals have watched in amazement as these perfectly smooth eggs incubate in hollow overhangs on the cliff and eventually fall to the ground.

Guizhou Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture has a strange geological landscape, a cliff every 30 years will fall out of a number of different sizes of "egg", which was the local people jokingly called "egg cliff". The villagers regarded as auspicious stone.

Geological experts, "egg" should be formed by the geological movement, and ultimately due to weathering from the cliff off.

Geologists found that while tests showed the rock formed 500 million years ago during the Cambrian period the specific section of cliff - part of Mount Gandeng - is made of calcareous rock which is common in many regions on earth.

Experts say the difference in time it takes for each type of rock to erode has led to the appearance of the eggs, which comprise heavy sediment deposits.

This still does not explain how the rocks appear in smooth round shapes, or how a half-a-billion-year-old geological region managed to contain the calcareous rock formation.

The cliff itself is just 20 metres (65 feet) long and six metres (19 feet) high.

Many villagers have taken the rocks home believing they bring luck and fortune.

It is thought to be the reason why only 70 have been preserved as many have been lost or stolen.

The site is located in the Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Region in China’s south-western Guizhou Province.

In 2009, local tourism bureau director Yang Shengjia encouraged members of the public to visit Chan Dan Ya, saying that tourists would be "astonished" to see the mountain that lays eggs.
