Motion-activated cameras intended to capture images of mountain lions in a Kansas park have instead snapped pictures of pranksters dressed as animals, monsters and even Santa Claus.
Police in Gardner - southwest of Kansas City - said they found the images Monday on the two cameras that were set up at the park in an attempt to capture an animal seen lurking on the grounds after dark.
Interspersed among images of skunks and coyotes were photos of people wearing costumes pretending to be lions wrestling, a gorilla, various monsters - including a Bigfoot- and an old person with a walker.
And of course Santa made an appearance during the three nights of high jinks.
Cpl. Robert Huff said it was 'pretty comical' and 'creative'. A message posted to Facebook by the Gardner Police Department actually thanked the pranksters for giving the cops a laugh.
'We would like to sincerely thank the persons responsible as it made our day when we pulled up what we expected to be hundreds of pictures of coyotes, foxes and raccoons,' the post said.
'Thank you to the citizens who noticed the cameras. Your effort and sense of humor is greatly appreciated as it made our day.'
The pranksters have not come forward.
The cameras were established this month to investigate reports of mountain lions. No mountain lions were detected.
The images released Monday were recorded over several nights from November 21 to November 28.
Gardner is 30 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Gardner Celebration Park is a 83-acre community space located at 32501 W. 159th Street.
