Bizarre photos have emerged of a woman in Wuhan carrying her boyfriend to make sure that he wouldn't ruin his expensive shoes, reports the People's Daily Online.
Wuhan in Hubei province has been hit hard by the heavy rains and flooding in the country.
The woman is pictured carrying her boyfriend on her back as they cross flood waters.
The waters are deep, reaching above her ankles.
She can be seen looking down while her boyfriend laughs while also looking a little embarrassed.
The woman told Chinese media: 'I am wearing sandals so it doesn't matter that I cross the waterlogged area.
He was wearing leather shoes which have to be washed laboriously [if they are soaked]. So it was easier that I carry him to cross the water.'
The pictures have been widely shared on social media.
On CCTV News' Facebook page, many people have criticised the man for being so selfish.
Randy Leyva wrote: 'He can remove the shoes and let his girlfriend carry the shoes and his girlfriend would be safe from feeling wet.'
Zahidul Islam Khan commented: 'If he think he is a man then I feel shame as a man. Undoubtedly that girl is very modest.'
Astrid Ann said: 'I wonder why they never thought of removing the man's shoes instead.'
