U.K Police release CCTV Man Punch dancing stranger putting him in Coma & Jailed for 16 Months

Footage shows the moment a nightclub thug floored a stranger with one punch, putting him in a coma - before returning to finish his drink.

In the CCTV video released by Barnstaple Police in Devon, Andrew Mason, 29, is seen walking into the centre of the frame from the bar at the Fever Nightclub.

Seconds later, Maxwell Banbury, 19, walks up to Mr Mason and strikes him in the head, before returning to his table.

He finishes his drink, then leaves the nightclub.

Banbury's punch put Mr Mason in a coma for 10 days, fracturing his skull.

DC Phil Lawes, investigating officer in the case, told the North Devon Journal: "This was a totally unprovoked assault with no justification whatsoever.

"The severity of this assault shockingly illustrates how a single punch can cause very serious injuries – and the consequences of this attack could have been much worse.

"Devon and Cornwall Police will investigate these types of assaults robustly and bring the offenders to justice."

Last week, Banbury admitted causing grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that Banbury had launched the attack on March 15 at 2:30am after mistakenly thinking Mason danced with his girlfriend, reported the Journal.

He was jailed for 16 months, with the sentence suspended for two years, and also given 200 hours of unpaid community work and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

Mr Mason is still suffering neurological damage seven months after the attack.

His victim impact statement put to Exeter Crown Court stated that his life had become "a living nightmare" and he was terrified of seizure.
