Woman's dog eats half her FACE : But she claims it saved her life & Can see again after 100 operations
Self-confessed binge drinker Wendy Hamriding, 53, fell down the stairs at her home in Preston, Lancs, and was knocked out for several hours.
It was only when she woke that she discovered that her mongrel dog Cassie has ripped off the top half of her face in what Wendy says was an attempt to wake her up that "went too far", taking out one of her eyes in the process.
The gruesome injuries meant were described as something out of a horror movie, and plastic surgeons battled to save her life.
The mum-of-two revealed: "There was blood all over the walls, carpet and settee - it was like something out of a horror movie.
"I could just about see out of the eye that was left but not well at all - I managed to stumble across the room and grabbed a towel to wrap around my face.
"Even though I'd been drinking the agony was unbearable.
"My youngest son was asleep upstairs and when he came down and found me it was terrifying for him - he phone an ambulance and I was rushed to hospital."
After two years of operations and physiotherapy, Wendy is now finally able to see again - and says that her 10-year-olod dog, who has since been put down, in fact saved her life.
Struggling with a drink problem for several years, she hasn't touched a drop since the horror accident that happened as a result of a wild session that saw her lose control and fall down the stairs.
Wendy added: "I was dying. I knew alcohol was killing me, but I could not stop drinking.
"But being able to see again after being blind is so amazing.
"I can see my sons again, and I have been able to see my grandchildren's faces for the first time in two years.
"Since the accident, I haven't touched a drop of alcohol.
"I would like to start working with people who have alcohol and drugs problems and addictions, as I want to help others.
"I am so lucky to have had my life saved when I was so close to dying as a result of alcohol, and I am even luckier to have got my sight back."
"Even though I could see the appalling damage my dog had done to my face, I knew she had inadvertently saved my life."
