CCTV Drunk U.S. metro passengers fall down escalators and even tumble onto tracks

These are the moments drunk Metro passengers found themselves in grave danger after falling off the side of escalators and stumbling on to train tracks.

Footage obtained from various stations across Washington D.C. shows four people struggling to put one foot in front of the other as they made their way to platforms.

One of the passengers, all of whom survived, even fell on to the train's track before being rescued by other travellers.

Another tumbles dozens of feet after falling off the side of a moving escalator in the early hours after seemingly consuming too much alcohol.

He falls two floors to the ground below, with dozens of other passengers rushing to his aid in the video obtained by News 4.

At 2.2.8 am on another night, a man leans against an escalator railing and falls over its side, disappearing from the camera's view.

Dan Stessel, a spokesman for the transit agency, said each of the victims shown in the footage was under the influence of alcohol.

'We want folks to ride responsibly.

'If they do find themselves in a position where they have trouble walking or standing, they might want to take a cab instead.'

Joseph Kitchen, a former member of Metro’s Riders’ Advisory Council, said intoxicated passengers are also a danger to others riding the trains.

Kitchen said, 'Sometimes someone is too drunk and can't control themselves. And (other passengers) are tired of their outrageous behavior.'

The Washington Metro is policed by its own unit of law enforcement, the Metro Transit Police Department.

The department is notoriously tough on rules relating to eating and drinking in stations, with both strictly prohibited on trains, buses and stations throughout the city.
