Visitors to the church's facebook page were welcomed by posts one would not necessarily expect to see from a church known for its extremist ideologies, especially those against gay people.
With a description that reads "The official Westboro Baptist Church Facebook Page Y'all", the page states that church's leaders include none other than Marilyn Manson, Anonymous and Captain Crunch (see screengrab below). From cat pictures, to funny posters and tell-tale Anonymous pictures with the symbolic 'V for Vendetta'mask prominently displayed.
This is not the first time Anonymous has attacked the church, that on Monday threatened to picket the funerals of those who died in the Boston Marathon bomb blasts.
The church said the bombs were God’s retribution for the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the State of Massachusetts almost eight years ago.
Often labelled as a hate group, the church, headed by Fred Phelps, has been known to picket funerals of fallen soldiers and celebrities.
In January this year, the group’s threat to picket at the funeral of Internet activist and Reddit founder Aaron Swartz was de railed by the “hacktivist” group.
