Hundreds of Pope Francis masks made for world youth day 2013 in Brazil

Pope Francis's celebrity status may be secure after a Brazilian mask maker recently began producing latex masks based on the pontiff's face.

The decision was made in anticipation of the Pope's visit to Rio de Janeiro for the Church's World Day of Youth in July.

Albert Paris, commercial director for mask maker Condal, hopes to capitalise on the event.

"He's a very charismatic pope, very humble. He's a lot closer to the people, a person well adapted to the current world and society. That was the main reason we decided to make the mask," said Paris.
